You know there’s an election when you’re awoken at 5am by the dulcet and angelic tones of Jonathan Gullis screaming from the bell tower at Sky News presenters in Stoke about holding Labour’s feet to the fire - or something.

Gullis, of course, is watching the Conservative majority on the Stoke on Trent city council being trounced - one of the many [around 60% of] councils across England where Conservatives would go on to lose their majority. It was hazy, I needed coffee immediately, but I could clearly tell that something was going horribly wrong for them.

And I wanted to witness every second of it.
