There’s blood in the water and the sharks are circling: lifting the lid on Sunak’s ‘Faction’ problem

According to the College of Policing’s guidance on how officers should respond to individuals who are at risk of suicide, it is important in negotiations those present to “express acceptance and concern”; to “avoid sermonising, arguing, problem-solving, giving advice” and that “It is important to convey an attitude of concern and understanding.”

It is also important to “Engage the individual and encourage the person to talk” .

“It is important… to allow the person to feel free to speak about the way that she or he feels,” the guidance says. It is effective to allow the individual to, “guide the communication and provide clues as to how to understand and help.”

It’s in this context that I consider the Secretary of State for Business and Trade Kemi Badenoch and her engagement with members of the European Research Group last week after the government decided to rip apart the EU Retained Law Bill.

It was basically the same scenario - except, instead of conveying an attitude of concern and understanding towards the individuals whose Brexit has been a perpetual and seemingly never-ending act of self-harm, it was left for the political halfwit Kemi Badenoch to adopt the Robocop approach and blast them out of the window they’re threatening to jump out of.

They didn’t abandon the EU Retained Law Bill.  altogether, mind you, the government - they just dissected it sufficiently enough to leave it a quivering and indiscernible mess flailing about on the floor in front of Hard Brexiters who looked on in absolute horror.
