'Broken' - The Home Office and the problems contained within are Labour's most toxic inheritance
Among all the missteps taken by the Conservatives during their time in power, their immigration and asylum policy was perhaps the most regrettable.
It wasn't so much that they were “obsessed” by it - they were, and the obsession drove them completely mad - but mostly because it was the one they screamed the loudest about, usually to compensate for how little they actually achieved - often at great cost and expense.
Of all the legacies that Labour stood to inherit, too, asylum, immigration and broader Home Office policy, and operations blighted with deficiencies, was also probably the most toxic.
