Time's Up, Prime Minister: It Just Needed Some Divine Intervention
“Look, you’ve got a motion being put forward by the opposition that is… impeccable, quite frankly, and it is written in such a way that it’s immensely hard to vote it down. Couple that with the fact that you’ve swanned off to India on the eve of a vote to determine whether or not a Parliamentary committee should investigate if you’re [clearly] in contempt of Parliament - the first Prime Minister to ever have this (dis)honour - leaving your party faithful of nodding dogs and sycophants singing your praises while you basically flee from the scene of the crime is not a good look, is it?
I mean, how are you expecting it to go?”
That’s not a real quote - but I feel what it tells us is more important about the disdain Boris Johnson has for seemingly every aspect of political discourse.
It was set t be one of the most important votes of our time.
At least, it was going to be one of the most important votes of our time - right up until the moment they decided to dump it and let an inquiry into the Prime Minister’s conduct sail through the Commons almost as though they were fatalistically resigned to the outcome.
