Last week, Rishi Sunak put speculation to bed that a general election would take place on May 2. The decision to say this added to the list of monumentally bad ‘Comms errors’ made by a Prime Minister who, in the words of former leader of the Scottish Conservatives Ruth Davidson, is looking more “embattled” by the day.

But then as Davidson also adds:

“You talk about adjectives leaders don’t want - ‘embattled’ is certainly one of them. I mean, you’re one away from beleaguered. And once you’re beleaguered, you’re f**ked.”

It’s quite succinct - but it also highlights a much bigger problem.
