A limited and specific political scandal that was buried by Christmas was the appointment of Sir Laurie Magnus as Rishi Sunak’s new 'independent' advisor on ministerial ethics.

But there’s a problem - he’s not really ‘that’ independent, and his appointment ‘seems’ unethical.
