One of the challenges for the government going into so-called 'NHS week' - or ‘Health week’, ‘Waiting lists week’ etc - was that they still had loose ends from their incompetent handling of so-called ‘Small Boats Week’ that needed to be tied up first.

Although it was unclear exactly what the government were hoping to announce as a means of tackling the plethora of difficulties the NHS faces going into the often difficult Autumn and Winter period, they managed to produce DHSC Secretary Steve Barclay at least.

Things got gradually worse from there.
