Stitch-ups and absolute nonsense - Why the Ghost of Boris Johnson still continues to haunt the Conservatives
Several weeks ago, the Conservative Democratic Organisation held a conference in Bournemouth.
For those who are not aware of who or what the Conservative Democratic Organisation is, it is perhaps best viewed as a cult of embittered and resentful Conservatives who idolise Boris Johnson and yearn for his return - though they claim that ‘bringing back Boris’ is not their intention.
It’s also one of the many factions within the Conservatives that uses every opportunity to work against Rishi Sunak and consists of a handful of Johnson loyalist MPs, Lords, wealthy Conservative donors and reportedly "thousands" of grassroots Conservative Party members.
They often disagree on policy. Sometimes they even vote against important bills.
Most of the time, however, they merely brief some very unflattering words to the press about how rubbish they think Rishi Sunak is, and in turn the media is quite happy to report that the CDO are about to perform the next Conservative Party uprising - even if it transpires that they never do, and the battle line of the revolution is full of gaps and [mostly] empty seats:
Yet from the noise we’ve been hearing from Johnson’s allies, you’d think they were about to bring the government to its knees à la European Research Group vs. Theresa May.
