'Sunak's Blackpool Problem' - It's the nightmare AFTER Christmas that the Prime Minister should be most concerned about
Blackpool.
“One of the most deprived areas in the UK,” according to the Local Government Association, with “the lowest life expectancy from birth of any local authority in England.”
This page was struck by the relative media silence over the Parliamentary Standards Commission report into the conduct of Blackpool South MP Scott Benton.
The relative neglect from the media was probably a sigh of relief for Rishi Sunak as two things are certain because of it:
As a result of Benton’s conduct, suspension, subsequent vote on the recommendations of the Parliamentary Standards Commission, and recall petition, Blackpool South will have a by-election.
Even though Benton has had the whip removed, he stills votes in favour of Conservative Party policy ; with a by-election on the horizon in the constituency, and the polls unrelenting in their negativity towards the Conservatives, Sunak will lose another of his dwindling working majority in Parliament.
But the problem doesn’t end there for Sunak. It doesn’t even begin there.
