One of the strangest stories that I’ve seen emerge recently is that of a response from Tunbridge Wells Borough Council to controversial comments made by Rishi Sunak in the Summer when he said that he diverting funds from deprived areas and putting them into affluent areas - like Tunbridge Wells.

You may remember this video unearthed by the New Statesman:

One example is the now-infamous video, leaked to the New Statesman, in which Sunak boasted to Tory members in Tunbridge Wells, Kent that he redistributed public funding from “deprived urban areas” to affluent towns such as theirs.

At the time it was said to have played a pivotal role in deciding his leadership candidacy. Boris Johnson acolyte and then chair of the so-called Northern Research Group Jake Berry said that Sunak:

“...says one thing and does another.”

There is a bit of an issue, however - because the Tunbridge Wells Borough Council have essentially said that Sunak was talking nonsense.
