Landmines are cruel and spiteful weapons. 

Belligerents lay them with the hopes in mind that at a later stage, they will kill, maim, disfigure, or significantly hinder progress for any individual or advancing group that desires to take a certain path going in a particular direction.

One of the more interesting departures from government (and indeed the Commons itself) was former MP for Cheltenham Alex Chalk. Chalk, in his former role as Justice secretary, left behind one of the biggest infrastructural problems that the United Kingdom had as it began with a new government under Labour: the collapsing justice system, and prisons and probationary service.
